CLA, TIAFF, LIAFF Discuss Freight Cost of Train from China to Laos toward Cambodia Across Thailand

Cambodia Logistics Association (CLA), Thai International Freight Forwarders Association (TIFFA), and Lao International Freight Forwarders Association (LIFFA) had discussed on new freight cost of trains from China to Lao toward Cambodia across Thailand, according to the three-day meeting on June 21-23, 2022 in Thanaleng Dry Port, Laos.

Director of CLA, Oknha Sin Chanty told Construction and Property Magazine through Telegram on 28 June 2022 that freight by trains from China to Laos takes only 8 to 10 hours, and takes 72 hours, adding time of customs clearance and goods loading.

He continued that as for the cost, the rail transport is better than other means, but logistic companies in Cambodia have to have their own containers and have to find an agent to complete the customs formalities in Laos.

This new freight means, requires payment of a deposit of US$5,000 for Dry Container and of US$20,000 for Refer Container in advance for 14 days.

Through rail freight from China, logistic companies in Cambodia must fill customs clearance twice:

  • Clearance#1: the companies must clear customs at the border of the China-Laos railway, which is at the Thanaleng Dry Port, Laos.
  • Clearance#2: customs clearance at the border of the Laos-Thailand railway (Nongkhai), then export cargos to Cambodia through the Cambodia-Thailand border (Boi Pet-Aranyaprathet).

In Cambodia, the companies are able to transport their goods by truck or by Phnom Penh-Boi Pet Railway, which is studying the feasibility to upgrade to high-speed lines, set to be completed in the next three months. (Read more)
