MPWT to launch Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway in early October, now 95% completed

Cambodia’s first expressway to be completed and put into temporary use on October 1, 2022, for free for one month, while now 95% of construction is completed.

This was confirmed by HE Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport, who inspected the progress of the construction of this road on July 19, 2022.

The Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway has been 95% completed and only a small number of jobs remain: such as finishing and cleaning work, placing traffic signs, planting trees at some points on both sides of the road, and supporting environmental work. And flower trees in the garden, the road and the work of installing security cameras.

He added that the Ministry will prepare a video to guide the use of this road to the people because this road is the first expressway in Cambodia.

His Excellency Note: Car owners can buy ETC electronic card to use to pay for the sensor system placed in front of their car without stopping at the checkout counter or from the engine change point at each checkout counter will charge Automatic travel costs.

Regarding the use of speed, HE said that the Ministry is considering this issue, but according to the plan can drive 120 km per hour because this road is a high-speed road, but drivers must be very careful because This road is in good condition, not bumpy, easy to ride, forget yourself, can ride too fast, causing danger.

As for the price, in the first year, the company will charge for travel according to the type of vehicle, including a family car will be charged US$24 for a round trip, and in the second year, the company will check the travel cost according to Concession agreement that Cambodia has signed with a construction company.

The Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway has a total length of 187.05 km, which started construction on March 22, 2019. This road connects Village 1, Sangkat Samrong Krom, Khan Por Senchey, Phnom Penh to Village 1, Sangkat 3, Sihanoukville, Preah Sihanouk Province. (Read more)
