Cambodia & Thailand Sign MOU to Strengthen Bilateral Logistics Capacity

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia and the National Council for Economic Development of the Kingdom of Thailand have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen the logistics sector for both countries.

The ceremony was held on 19 July 2022, in the presence of the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia, Lok Chumteav Koy Sodany, and Mr. Danucha Pichayanan, Secretary General of the NESDC.

This MOU is for cooperation in three main areas, including:

  1. The policy framework level includes the logistics policy, the legal and regulatory framework, the institutional framework, the coordination and decision-making mechanism, the implementation process, policy monitoring, and evaluation.
  2. Logistics indicators and systems include logistics costs per GDP and the Logistics Performance Index (LPI).
  3. Support each other in strengthening the institutional capacity and capacity of stakeholders in the field of logistics.

The two sides discussed and shared the implementation of policies on the development of the logistics sector, including the establishment of policies for the development of transport infrastructure and logistics as a priority and the most important sector for economic and social development.

Previously, the World Bank (WB) recommended key short and long-term policy measures to reduce national logistics costs and address weak links in the supply chain in Cambodia. (Read more and more)
