Australia Provides Over US$75m to Invest in Agricultural Infrastructure through CAP-RED

Australia has pledged a fund of approximately US$75 million to support Cambodia’s economic recovery through investing in infrastructure and increasing resilience in the agriculture sector, agricultural processing, and trade.

The fund was discussed during the meeting between the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries HE Veng Sakhon and Australian Ambassador to Cambodia HE Pablo Kang on 11 August.

Through a new program called the Cambodia-Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAP-RED), Australia will contribute to rural poverty reduction, increase incomes for farmers, and boost the agricultural sector in Cambodia.

The implementation of this new program is under the main scheme called the Cambodia-Australia Agricultural Value Chain (CAVAC) program.

According to the Australian Embassy, since 2010, Australia has invested over US$92 million through CAVAC to increase rice production, irrigation for smallholder farmers, and agricultural diversification in Cambodia.
