JICA to Support 529 km Rural Road Improvement Project in 4 Cambodian Provinces

The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has pledged to assist the Ministry of Rural Development in the implementation of a rural road improvement project spanning 529 km across four provinces. The project, set to be completed over a five-year period from 2023 to 2028, will receive funding from JICA.

The project aims to construct DBST paved and concrete roads in Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, and Banteay Meanchey provinces. Minister of Rural Development H.E. Ouk Rabun announced the project during a meeting with Kamei Haruko, Chief Representative at the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Cambodia Office on 16 March.

Ms. Kamei Haruko expressed her gratitude to the Cambodian government for their cooperation and emphasized JICA’s commitment to supporting rural road connectivity and the development of Cambodian livelihoods through infrastructure rehabilitation and construction. JICA has played a vital role in supporting Cambodia on various infrastructure projects, including clean water supply, clean energy, and agriculture.

JICA’s support for rural road improvement will aid in connecting remote areas and communities, enhancing access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunities. The project aligns with the government’s efforts to improve rural infrastructure and bridge the development gap between urban and rural areas.

The partnership between JICA and the Ministry of Rural Development will undoubtedly contribute to the socioeconomic growth and prosperity of Cambodia’s rural communities.
