Kratie Province to Receive $40 Million for 3 Roads Upgrade

Kratie province is set to receive a major infrastructure boost with the announcement of a new road upgrade project worth $40 million. The project will see the rehabilitation, expansion, and upgrading of three sections of roads, spanning more than 98 km. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on 4 April 2023, to mark the beginning of the construction.

According to the project plan, NR73, Provincial Road 377, and Provincial Road 377A will undergo repair and maintenance for a total duration of 18 months. The upgrades will include the use of 5 cm thick AC concrete and 20 cm thick reinforced concrete pavement, as well as the construction of 9 new bridges on Provincial Road 377. The total budget for the project is approximately US$40 million.

  1. National Road No. 73 Section with total length of 81km of from Pratheat intersection, Pratheat village, Sralop commune, Tbong Khmum district to Kampong Reang bridge, Seda commune, Tambor district (Kratie provincial border) will be rehabilitated, expanded and upgraded as a paved road. AC 5 cm thick and 20 cm thick reinforced concrete pavement, 10-13 m wide (for 2 lanes) and 15.7-16 m wide (for 4 lanes in the city).
  2. Provincial Roads No. 377 has a length of 35 km from the roundabout Preap Sar (Kratie City) to Sambo District.
  3. Provincial Road 377A has a length of 13.6 Kilometers from Sandan Market, Sandan Commune to Sangkom Village, Sandan Commune, Sambo District. Both Provincial Roads No. 377 and 377A have a total length of 48.6 km.

These three-section road upgrades will be 18 months, with a maintenance period of 60 months. The total cost of the project is financed by the World Bank Concessional Loan Framework, which includes demining, unexploded ordnance, and taxes.

The section of NR No. 73 will be constructed by NIMMENG-PROCO JOINT VENTURE Company, while Provincial Roads No. 377 and 377A will be constructed by POLY CHANGDA ENGINEERING CO., LTD. The project is expected to create job opportunities and significantly improve the people’s quality of life in Kratie province.

The upgrading and maintenance of these three roads are vital in response to the dilapidated condition and damage of the road, especially during the rainy season. Additionally, these roads serve as crucial economic routes that connect with other major NR networks to the capital and the northeastern provinces, as well as to Cambodia’s cities, economic zones, and border areas.
