GOV’t Plans to Develop Seabed War Museum on Takeav Island

Sihanoukville provincial authorities are planning to establish a Seabed War Museum on the Takeav archipelago near Ream, according to HE Long Dimanche, Deputy Governor of Sihanoukville.

The proposed Submarine War museum will showcase the remnants of World War II that have plunged into the seabed and will be a significant attraction for both national and international tourists. The provincial administration is collaborating with the Khmer Dive Group on a project to develop the Seabed War Museum.

HE Dimanche said that “in the Ta Kieu archipelago near Ream, there are remnants of World War II, including warplanes and fighter jets, as well as some war-era equipment that fell into the sea”

HE Long Dimanche also called on young Cambodians to learn diving to experience the seabed and confirm that Cambodia has not only potential in cultural, and land natural tourist places, but only on the island and beneath the sea water.

“In order to be able to visit the museum, you have to go diving to see and practice Diving to go down to see the seabed,” said the deputy governor.

In addition to the World War II artifacts, the seabed in Sihanoukville has many beautiful corals in all colors and a diverse range of marine life. The Seabed War Museum will enable visitors to experience the beauty of the seabed and discover the historical significance of the area.

HE added, in Sihanoukville, there are 32 islands that have the potential to become seabed tourist resorts, but not many people are interested, while the seabed has a lot of beautiful corals in all colours. All kinds of biodiversity and beautiful fish, such as Koh Rong, Koh Tang, Koh Pulu Wai, and so on.

The Seabed War Museum project is part of Sihanoukville’s broader efforts to develop its tourism industry.
