China Secures Global Dominance with Unmatched Number of Nuclear Power Units Under Construction

China’s unwavering commitment to nuclear power has propelled it to the forefront of global energy leadership, as confirmed by the latest blue book issued by the China Nuclear Energy Association (CNEA) on Wednesday.

The report reveals that China currently leads the world with an impressive 24 nuclear power units under construction, boasting a staggering total installed capacity of 26.81 million kW.

The blue book is a testament to China’s exceptional track record of operating nuclear power units in a safe and stable manner, while simultaneously making steady progress in expanding their construction.

In a remarkable display of ambition and capability, China has approved the development of 10 new nuclear power units since 2022, with three units already achieving commercial operation and six units actively under construction.

Presently, China stands tall with 54 commercial nuclear power units, totaling an installed capacity of 56.82 million KWs, securing a commendable third place on the global stage. The nation’s prowess in nuclear energy extends beyond sheer quantity, with an unwavering commitment to maintaining internationally advanced safety standards.
