Korean Firm Explores Potential for Expansive Car Park Development in Sihanoukville with 5hectares of land

In a bid to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance urban infrastructure, a reputable Korean company has initiated a comprehensive study to invest in the construction of a vast 5-hectare car park in Sangkat 1 of Sihanoukville. Mr. Touch Sotharith, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Land Transport, confirmed this exciting development on 2nd June 2023.

During a crucial meeting focused on disseminating legal standards and gathering insights for the draft sub-decree on public transport and parking in Sihanoukville, the Deputy Director General emphasized the urgent need for parking facilities to address the growing transportation challenges in the province.

He said that “as Sihanoukville has built 37 roads and continues its transformation into a smart city, the construction of parking stations emerges as a crucial step to curb traffic congestion and mitigate the issues caused by unregulated parking practices.”

“With the aim of ensuring the success of the parking initiatives in Sihanoukville, the government has proactively organized outreach workshops, encouraging private sector participation and seeking valuable input for the establishment of well-planned parking facilities in the city. These collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors pave the way for a comprehensive and efficient parking solution that aligns with the development goals of Sihanoukville,” he added.

Notably, the Deputy Director General unveiled that the Provincial Administration of Sihanoukville has already identified a prime land area spanning approximately 5 hectares in Sangkat 1 for the proposed parking lot. A reputable Korean company is currently conducting a detailed study of the site, assessing its suitability and exploring innovative design concepts.

Once the study is completed, the company will present its findings and proposals to the provincial leadership for evaluation, culminating in the realization of a mutually agreed-upon master plan. This strategic partnership between the private sector and the state exemplifies a harmonious collaboration aimed at advancing Sihanoukville’s urban development and providing residents and visitors with well-organized parking facilities.

As Sihanoukville takes proactive measures to enhance its transportation infrastructure, the envisioned expansive car park development holds immense promise in mitigating traffic congestion and creating a more efficient urban environment. By attracting reputable international firms like the Korean company, Sihanoukville reaffirms its commitment to fostering sustainable growth and improving the quality of life for its residents.
