Cambodia & Australia Forge New Alliance to Boost Food Processing SMEs

Cambodia and Australia have unveiled a strategic partnership aimed at bolstering small and medium enterprises (SMEs) within the agro-food sector. This dynamic initiative seeks to foster the development of innovative products, enhance adherence to food safety standards, and facilitate market expansion for SMEs. The announcement comes as part of a press release issued by Cambodian entrepreneurs on 22 September 2023.

The partnership delineates a comprehensive strategy comprising three key elements:

  1. Food Processing Fund: SMEs will receive crucial financial backing to facilitate the creation of novel products, broaden their market reach, and ensure compliance with rigorous food safety regulations.
  2. Food Processing Services: Access to vital food processing and technology services, encompassing information technology, marketing, branding, and packaging, will be extended to SMEs to elevate their capabilities.
  3. National Program on Agro-Food Processing: A collaborative platform uniting SMEs, researchers, and stakeholders will facilitate the exchange of insights and ideas on food processing methodologies.

Crucially, this transformative partnership enjoys support from the Royal Government of Cambodia through Cambodian Entrepreneurs (KE) and the Australian Government via the Cambodia-Australia Partnership for Sustainable Economic Development (CAPRED). It will work in close concert with esteemed institutions such as the Institute of Technology of Cambodia, the Royal University of Agriculture, the National University of Battambang, and the Kampong Speu Institute of Technology.

This initiative holds the promise of invigorating Cambodia’s agro-food SME landscape, opening avenues for innovation, product diversification, and market expansion. It underscores the joint commitment of Cambodia and Australia to fostering economic growth, nurturing entrepreneurship, and ensuring food safety in the region.
