The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has bestowed a generous grant of US$2 million for the realisation of a vital feasibility study project. The initiative, focusing on the implementation of the ‘Water Supply and Flood Reduction Measures Project in the Prek Neal Basin in Svay Rieng Province’, marks a collaborative effort between Cambodia’s Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology and KOICA.

The primary objectives of this groundbreaking study encompass multifaceted goals, ranging from mitigating floods and droughts to enhancing irrigation supply, household water access, and industrial support. Furthermore, the initiative aims to elevate agricultural productivity and efficiency, aligning with Cambodia’s broader vision for sustainable development.

The grant, a testament to the Republic of Korea’s commitment to fostering international collaboration, will span two years from 2021 to 2023. The recent workshop held on 20 November 2023, served as a pivotal platform for key stakeholders to converge, exchange knowledge, and contribute valuable insights, particularly focusing on water management in agriculture.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the project, the workshop provided a forum to discuss challenges, risks, and potential successes that may shape future endeavours. The forthcoming feasibility study report is poised to be a guiding document, offering insights into the viability and potential hurdles associated with water supply in agriculture within the Prek Neal area of Svay Rieng province.
