Kampot International Tourism Port Set to Launch Operations in Q3 This Year

The Kampot International Tourism Port will commence temporary operations by the third quarter of 2024, operated by local firm AZ Builders Co., Ltd. This announcement follows an agreement signed on 28 June 2024 between HE Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, and Mr Lim Bunsur, Chairman of AZ Builders Co., Ltd.

“The firm has to prepare for trial port operation in the third quarter this year and the official commencement in the fourth quarter this year,” stated the ministry in a press release issued upon the signing ceremony. This strategic move aims to enhance Cambodia’s tourism infrastructure and boost the local economy.

HE Peng Ponea emphasised that under the agreement, AZ Builders Co., Ltd will collaborate with his ministry and other relevant institutions to ensure efficient implementation, serving both national interests and the firm’s objectives.

Situated in one of Cambodia’s key coastal provinces, the port is poised to become a vital international waterway, facilitating the transport of tourists to southern islands and connecting Kampot province to global destinations, thereby invigorating the local tourism sector.

Construction of the port began in 2018 and was completed in 2022. It is a significant component of the “Tourism Infrastructure Development Project,” funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) with a US$10 million investment.

This new port will play a crucial role in enhancing the region’s tourism infrastructure, providing a robust foundation for future economic growth and increased international connectivity. (Read more)
