Vietnam Expands 400MW of Electricity Supply to Cambodia: Pledging More Cooperation

Vietnam has announced a significant increase in its electricity supply to Cambodia, pledging up to 400 megawatts to support the nation’s economic growth. This commitment follows a recent meeting between Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, and HE Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of Vietnam, held in Hanoi on 25 July 2024.

The agreement includes renewing an existing contract to supply 250 megawatts from 2025 onwards, with an additional provision to expand this capacity up to 400 megawatts to bolster Cambodia’s Industry 4.0 initiatives and overall economic progress. The expansion reflects Vietnam’s readiness to support Cambodia’s development needs and strengthen bilateral economic ties.

The meeting underscored the commitment of both countries to enhance their economic and infrastructural links. In addition to the electricity supply agreement, both nations agreed to foster closer cooperation in infrastructure, economy, and tourism. This collaborative effort aims to create mutually beneficial opportunities and further integrate their economies. The broader vision includes developing robust infrastructure that supports economic growth and strengthens bilateral relations.

The enhanced electricity supply will play a crucial role in supporting Cambodia’s burgeoning industrial sector, which is vital for the nation’s progress in Industry 4.0.

It is important to highlight that this collaboration extends beyond mere electricity supply, aiming to establish mutually beneficial economic relations. Both countries have also committed to enhancing infrastructure links, particularly in the areas of economy and tourism, to foster mutual benefits and strengthen their partnership.
