Ground Broken on Cambodia’s First Electric Truck Assembly Plant in Pursat

Cambodia has embarked on a significant step towards green technology with the commencement of construction of the ZO Motors (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. electric vehicle assembly plant in the Krakor Special Economic Zone, Pursat Province. Spanning 10 hectares, the plant will assemble electric vehicles for freight and household businesses, catering to both the domestic market and export within ASEAN.

The groundbreaking ceremony, presided over by HE Keo Rattanak, Minister of Mines and Energy, took place on 18 August 2024, marking a milestone in the nation’s industrial and environmental efforts.

ZO Motors, a joint Japan-China venture, is a next-generation energy commercial vehicle manufacturer, known for producing and distributing gas-free commercial trucks across Asia with a global supply chain.

The company, which has already established its ZM Trucks brand in Europe and North America, is committed to transforming Cambodia’s transportation sector. Their focus is on shifting from diesel trucks to state-of-the-art eco-friendly electric trucks, a move designed to reduce transportation costs and promote sustainable practices.

The company has ambitious plans for the factory, with projections to assemble 10,000 vehicles annually over the next three years. Additionally, the plant will generate employment opportunities for 500 Cambodians, further contributing to the local economy.

The Krakor Special Economic Zone is already home to a Ford assembly plant, established with an investment of approximately US$21 million, and another automobile assembly plant is set to emerge soon.
