Cambodia and South Korea Strengthen Partnership to Accelerate Rural Development Through New Village Movement

On 12 September 2024, Cambodia and South Korea solidified their commitment to enhancing rural development in Cambodia through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under the New Village Movement project. The MoU, signed between Kyungsangbukdo Province of South Korea and Cambodia’s Asian Cultural Council, highlights a renewed focus on boosting rural infrastructure, promoting agricultural innovation, and fostering human resource development.

This agreement, under the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia and Honorary Chairman of the Asian Cultural Council, aims to strengthen bilateral ties by sharing South Korea’s successful rural development experience through the New Village Movement.

Key areas of cooperation include the development of smart farms, advancements in mechanical agriculture, and the establishment of agricultural support systems.

In addition to agricultural growth, the collaboration will extend to improving public health services by deploying mobile health units, training local medical staff, providing volunteer medical services, and enhancing the capabilities of local hospitals.

Vocational training and academic exchanges are also central to the partnership, with plans to establish vocational schools, offer Master’s Scholarships for the New Village Movement Program, and create a New Village Movement Center in Cambodia.

The scope of this collaboration further includes AI and digital innovation initiatives, along with cultural exchange programs aimed at deepening ties between the two nations.
