Svay Pak Pumping Station Nears Completion, 96% Finished, Set to Alleviate Northern Phnom Penh Flooding

The new Svay Pak pumping station, crucial for addressing the flooding in northern Phnom Penh, is now 96% complete, according to the Phnom Penh Department of Public Works and Transport’s update on 9 October 2024.

The project is part of a broader initiative to expand flood control capabilities in the city, with the station’s total capacity set to increase to 35 cubic meters per second once completed.

This vital infrastructure project, which began in 2022, aims to significantly reduce flooding issues in key districts, particularly Khan Sen Sok and Khan Russey Keo. Two large-scale motors with a diameter of 1 meter are scheduled to be launched on 10 October 2024 at the Svay Pak pumping station, further enhancing its capacity to alleviate flooding in these areas.

In addition to the Svay Pak station, another pumping station currently under construction has reached 25% completion. Combined, these stations will boost flood mitigation efforts, providing a major increase in water drainage capacity for the northern zones of Phnom Penh.

Back in September 2022, the Department of Public Works and Transport, in collaboration with the Russey Keo District Administration, inaugurated the construction site for the new pumping station, designed with an hourly capacity of 30,000 cubic meters. This station will help resolve longstanding flooding issues across several regions in Khan Russey Keo, offering relief to residents and businesses alike. (Read more)
