The 250 km Cambodia Border Ring Road is starting the construction under FBID’s Nearly USD 27 Million

The Government of Cambodia opened the construction of a 250 km border ring road under the Foundation for Border Infrastructure Development (FBID) of USD 26,967.609 million on November 1, 2024, and is scheduled to be completed by the end of April 2027.a

This was confirmed by HE Kim Bunthan, Chairman of the Working Group for the Management of the Foundation for Border Infrastructure Development (FBID) at the press conference on November 1, 2024.

During the conference, HE Kim Bunthan said that on November 1 the 250-kilometre-long border ring road, equivalent to 18.4 percent of the 51.90 percent of the unfinished border ring road, was opened for construction under the Border Infrastructure Fund, a total of USD 26,967.609 million.

The Foundation for Border Infrastructure Development was raised within 66 days (from August 26 to October 31, 2024) through voluntary donations from local and foreign philanthropists 720,105 persons, in the total amount of USD 26,967,609 (including the total amount of 32,952,442,044 Riels and the total amount of USD 18,729,998 USD).

HE Kim Bunthan added that the budget of nearly 27 million USD will be used to build a 250-kilometre-long stone road along the border, which has 4 lines in the geography of Mondulkiri, 147.42 kilometres and in Rattanakiri Province, length 102.58 km. This road is a kind of paved road (a new road) with a road of 9 to 10 meters and a width of 7 meters.

In addition, the task force will clear mines and unexploded ordnance on a total area of ​​6,250,000 m2 and all types of artistic structures, including 23 steel-fibre concrete bridges with a total length of 567 m, all concrete box drains. 47 types of total length of 369 m, 494 types of concrete drainage ditches and 2 concrete roads for water storage, total length of 72 m.

It should be noted that from 1994 to 2023, the construction of the border ring road reached 48.10% and cleared nearly 30,000 hectares of landmines and unexploded ordnance. The remaining 51.90% of the unfinished border road.
