Serei Sophon Landfill Project Completed in Banteay Meanchey Province

The construction of an 11-hectare landfill in Serei Sophon has officially been completed, marking a significant milestone in the region’s waste management efforts. Relevant authorities are preparing for a handover inspection scheduled for November 20, 2024.

During a recent visit to the site, HE Ros Vanna, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, announced that the landfill, located in Kang Va Village, Kampong Svay Sangkat, is fully operational. This project is a key component of the second phase of the environmental management improvement initiative around Tonle Sap Lake, which is financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Construction started on December 11, 2023, and was successfully concluded on October 24, 2024. The landfill is set to serve the local community until 2040, benefiting approximately 128,208 residents from the communes of Makak, Kampong Svay, Preah Ponlea, Teuk Thla, O Ambel, Phniet, Koh Pongshat, and Serei Sophon city.

This project not only enhances waste management capacity but also contributes to the overall environmental sustainability of the region, ensuring a cleaner and healthier community for years to come.
