ADB Invests USD 403 Million in Six Key Projects for Cambodia

In a significant boost for Cambodia, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved USD 403 million in loans and grants for six major development projects in 2024. The announcement, made by ADB Country Director Ms Jyotsana Varma during a signing ceremony on December 17, emphasizes the strengthened partnership between ADB and Cambodia under the new Partnership Strategy for 2024-2028.

The funding will address crucial areas, including:

1. Education: USD 80 million to enhance secondary education and increase access to higher education, focusing on developing resilient school facilities.
2. Gender-Based Violence: USD 10 million to bolster the country’s response systems to achieve a gender-based violence-free society by 2030.
3. Business Environment: USD 50 million to create a more competitive investment landscape by reducing trade barriers.
4. Water Resources: USD 88 million for integrated water resources management in the Tonle Sap Basin.
5. Agricultural Irrigation: USD 85 million to improve climate resilience and water distribution across irrigation systems in four provinces.
6. Rural Water Supply and Sanitation: USD 90 million for enhancing climate-resilient water supply and sanitation facilities in rural areas.

These initiatives aim to foster sustainable growth while addressing critical social and environmental challenges.
