Prime Minister Unveils Plans for New Public Park in Phnom Penh

In a significant move to enhance community well-being, Prime Minister Hun Manet has announced an ambitious initiative to transform 70 hectares of land in the Kob Srov Dam area into a vibrant public park. The announcement was made during the official inauguration of the Morodok Techo flyover on 7 April, marking a step towards providing residents of Phnom Penh with a beautiful recreational space.

During the event, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of green spaces in urban settings, stating, “I have ordered the preparation of more than 70 hectares of land in the Kob Srov Dam area as a public park for Phnom Penh residents to enjoy and relax.” The new park is envisioned as a serene retreat where families and individuals can escape the fast pace of city life, offering opportunities for relaxation and various recreational activities.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Hun Manet urged other provinces to intensify their efforts in developing public parks, fostering a sense of healthy competition among cities. “In the future, big cities should have large squares or public parks,” he emphasised. This push underscores his commitment to enhancing the quality of life in urban areas.

In addition to creating the new park, the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration is actively working on a tree-planting initiative to improve environmental quality and beautify the city. The project is poised to enhance the landscape, promote healthier lifestyles, and encourage community participation.

As the project progresses, residents can look forward to a rejuvenated urban environment prioritizing nature and well-being, paving the way for a brighter future for Phnom Penh’s communities.
