Significant Infrastructure Development: Three Key National Roads Inaugurated in Cambodia

In a significant step towards enhancing connectivity in Cambodia, three major national roads totalling over 201 kilometers were officially inaugurated today. Prime Minister Hun Sen officiated the event alongside Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, Wang Wenbin.

The newly inaugurated roads—National Road 31, National Road 33, and National Road 41—are essential links connecting Phnom Penh to various coastal provinces in southwestern Cambodia. The project, funded through a concessional loan from the Government of the People’s Republic of China, reflects a robust bilateral partnership to develop Cambodia’s infrastructure.

Prime Minister Hun Sen expressed gratitude towards the Chinese government, the Chinese Embassy, and the China International Bank for Cooperation for their instrumental role in financing the rehabilitation and construction of vital infrastructure, including roads and bridges.

National Road 31 stretches 53.53 kilometers from Bek Kus at the intersection of National Road 3 to the Kampong Trach district, where it meets National Road 33. This road aims to improve regional accessibility and economic opportunities.

National Road 33, measuring 52.57 kilometers, connects Kampot province, starting from National Road 3 at km 148+100, to the border with Vietnam at Chak Lok. It traverses several key areas, including Teuk Chhou and Kampong Trach districts in Kampot province, and passes through Kep city and Damnak Chang-Ear districts in Kep province. Both roads have been constructed under a concessional loan of USD 121 million from the Chinese government, with groundwork commencing on December 30, 2022. (Read more)

The largest of the three, National Road 41, spans 95 kilometers, linking National Road 4 at Thanl Toeng—situated at the border between Samrong Tong district in Kampong Speu province and Ang Snuol district in Kandal province—to National Road 3 in Chum Kiri district, Kampot province. This ambitious project was built with a USD 67 million concessional loan from the Chinese government, with construction starting on December 26, 2022. (Read more)
