US$12 Million Win-win Memorial Peace Symbol Inaugurated in Cambodia

After two years of construction, Cambodia’s Win-Win Memorial has been officially inaugurated by Cambodia Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen.

Spreading in the heart of 8 hectares of land, the Win-Win Memorial has been built to commemorate Cambodian heroes who sacrificed themselves in the pursuit of peace during the time when Cambodia was undergoing a ruthless civil war. In addition, the Win-Win Memorial will also stock historical documents for the younger generation to research historical events. Surrounding the Win-Win Memorial, there is also a gym, gallery, library, as well as a documentary movie theatre.

Located in Sangkat Prek Ta Sek, Khan Chroy Changva, Phnom Penh, the Win-Win Memorial is 54 metres high and 36 metres wide, surrounded by five poles representing the DIFID strategy of Samdech Techo Hun Sen used to defeat the Khmer Rouge militants. The DIFID strategy consisted of five components – divide, isolate, finish, integrate, and develop.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said that the decision to choose this location is because this area will become a satellite city in the future as well as a venue for the 2023 SEA Games.

For the construction budget, Samdech Techo Hun Sen highlighted that the government has already spent more than US$12 million, most of which came from Phnom Penh Municipality, which does not include the land. Moreover, the government also put aside additional budget for the construction in accordance to the need as request by the construction committee.

“This place [Win-Win Memorial] is not my home, nor belongs to anybody, but belongs to the nation!” Samdech Techo Hun Sen emphasised.

“Congratulations to the Win-Win Memorial, which mean no one win no one lose, everyone wins!”
