Foundations Laid on Us$56 Million Mekong Bridge Crossing

Foundations have been laid on the US$56 million spanning the Mekong between Kampong Cham and TbongKhmum provinces, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT).

Work on the Cambodia-China Friendship Bridge of Stung Trang-KrouchChhmar, began in early February 2018, and the bridge foundations are now laid according to images posted by MPWT.

Funded by a loan from the Chinese government as part of its comprehensive support for building infrastructure in Cambodia, work on the bridge construction has been ongoing for almost a year.

Spanning 1,131 metres and 13.5 metres wide, the bridge is a spherical concrete design and is being constructed by the Shanghai Construction Group using a US$ 56,998 million loan from China.

According to the plan, the Cambodia-China Friendship Bridge will take up to 42 months to construct and is schedule to be completed by early 2021.
