Chinese Firm Secures Contract to Develop Pumping Station for Key Cambodian Provinces

In a significant development for Cambodia’s water sector, the renowned Beijing Urban Construction Group Co., Ltd (BUCG), a prominent Chinese state-owned company, has been awarded the contract to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study and design a cutting-edge pumping station. The station will harness water resources from the mighty Mekong River, incorporating advanced water treatment systems and networks across Cambodia’s vital regions.

The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation officially signed a momentous Memorandum of Understanding with BUCG on 1st June 2023,

Explaining the reasons for choosing this company, HE Senior Minister Cham Prasidh highlighted the company’s impressive track record in delivering large-scale domestic and international construction projects. BUCG’s expertise spans a wide range of infrastructure ventures, including airports, national stadiums, expressways, water treatment plants, and wastewater treatment stations.

The ambitious project to construct a pumping station extracting water from the Mekong River demands substantial investment and cutting-edge technology. Spanning hundreds of kilometers, this endeavor involves the installation of extensive pipelines and the establishment of a state-of-the-art water treatment facility. The primary objective is to ensure the provision of safe and clean water to communities residing east of the Mekong River, extending all the way to the Vietnamese border, mitigating the risks of chemical contamination and safeguarding human health.

The esteemed China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation has been entrusted with conducting the feasibility study for this pivotal project, further highlighting the collaboration between China and Cambodia in addressing crucial water-related challenges in the country. (Read more)
