ADB Commits USD 400 Million Large-Scale Financing for Clean Water and Sanitation in Cambodia by 2025

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has pledged a transformative USD 400 million Large-Scale Financing (MFF) project to advance clean water and sanitation infrastructure across Cambodia, targeting approval by the end of 2025. This announcement follows the success of an ongoing USD 119 million Provincial Water Supply and Sanitation Project currently active in the provinces of Battambang and Kampong Cham.

The news was disclosed after a recent strategic meeting between HE Hem Vandy, Cambodia’s Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Norio Saito, ADB’s Senior Director of Water Supply and Urban Development, held to discuss future water and sanitation improvements in Cambodia.

ADB’s Large-Scale Financing Project is intended to build upon its USD 119 million water and sanitation efforts from 2018 to 2024 in Battambang and Kampong Cham, which focused on upgrading water infrastructure and enhancing service provision through sustainable revenue mechanisms. Minister Hem Vandy expressed strong support for the development, reaffirming Cambodia’s commitment to improving wastewater management and advancing essential water infrastructure. He requested continued ADB partnership to secure both technical and operational capacity for Cambodia’s water service operators, a critical element in ensuring long-term success.
