AIIB Explores Expanded Cooperation with Cambodia

 

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is looking to broaden its engagement in Cambodia, focusing on key sectors such as energy, urban development, and connectivity. This initiative was discussed during a recent meeting between Prime Minister Hun Manet and AIIB President Jin Liqun in Tokyo.

During their discussions, Jin Liqun expressed gratitude for Cambodia’s commitment as a founding member of the AIIB since 2016 and provided an overview of the bank’s current operations. He emphasised the AIIB’s readiness to collaborate with the Cambodian government to promote resilient and sustainable development, particularly in the infrastructure sector.

Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed the AIIB’s initiative and highlighted the importance of enhancing cooperation between the two parties. He urged the AIIB to engage in more detailed discussions with relevant Cambodian ministries, especially the Ministry of Economy and Finance, to identify concrete opportunities for partnership.

Additionally, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) also showed interest in collaborating on major infrastructure projects during this visit, signalling a growing commitment from Japanese financial institutions to support Cambodia’s development.(Read more)
