Messy Cables in Siem Reap Buried Underground by Early 2022

Siem Reap provincial authorities have claimed that all the overhead cabling along the roads in downtown Siem Reap will be 100% buried underground after the completion of the 38-road project by early next year.

Siem Reap Deputy Governor You Sophea said during a site inspection on 24 May that the underground cable network is part of the smart city project. Thus, from next year, there will no more messy visible cables.

According to the Director of the Siem Reap Provincial Department of Posts and Telecommunications Sok Seiha, the underground fibre optic cable project will be implemented on 24 roads in Siem Reap over approximately 150 kilometres.

“While in 2018 and early 2019, we have already implemented the project on 14 roads over about 70 kilometres. We expect that this project to be 100% complete next year,” said Mr Seiha.

To date, there are 11 internet companies in Siem Reap. However, only 2 companies have the license to bury their cables underground which are the state-owned Telecom Cambodia and the Cambodia Fiber Optic Communication Network (CFOCN).
