Cutting-edge Cold Storage Facility Boosts Phnom Penh Port’s Logistics Capacity

A state-of-the-art cold storage warehouse, situated in the LM17 container terminal area of Phnom Penh Autonomous Port, was officially unveiled on 24 January 2024. Presided over by HE Peng Po, Minister of Public Works and Transport, the inauguration marked the establishment of a pivotal infrastructure underlining Cambodia’s commitment to modernised and efficient logistics.

This latest addition to the port’s facilities is owned by Khmer Cold Chain Company and strategically positioned in the Kandal Leu village, Banteay Dek commune, Kien Svay district, Kandal province. Boasting a substantial storage capacity of 5,827 cubic metres, the warehouse encompasses a temperature range from -22 °C to 15 °C. Developed through a collaborative effort between InfraCo Asia, Phnom Penh Autonomous Port, and with the support of the Development Fund and USAID, this project is under the auspices of the United Kingdom, Australia, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

Minister Peng Po highlighted the multifaceted advantages of the new warehouse, emphasizing its role in providing cold storage services adhering to international standards. Beyond facilitating temperature-controlled storage, the facility is poised to amplify the throughput of containers at the Phnom Penh Autonomous Port, contributing significantly to its operational efficiency.

The inauguration ceremony underscored the broader impact on Cambodia’s logistics and port sector. The new warehouse is anticipated to catalyse reforms, fostering enhanced competitiveness, transparency, and efficiency in logistics services. This aligns with the nation’s vision to position itself as a regional hub for trade and commerce.
