Australia Collaborates with Cambodia to Establish Groundbreaking Agri-Food Industrial Park for Enhanced Competitiveness

In a groundbreaking partnership, Australia is teaming up with Cambodia to establish the country’s first Agri-Food Industrial Park (AIP) with the aim of enhancing market competitiveness. The Australian Embassy officially announced this significant collaboration on 3 May 2023 through their official Facebook page.

The Agri-Food Industrial Park will serve as a hub for Agri-Food processing, research and development, capacity building, and, notably, as a safe and secure workplace that prioritizes the well-being of female and underprivileged staff members.

According to Cambodia’s 2022 Feasibility Study conducted by the government, the Agri-Food industrial parks are projected to contribute a staggering US$5.1 billion to the Cambodian economy by 2045 while generating up to 100,000 new job opportunities. It is worth mentioning that over half of these employment opportunities are expected to be allocated to women.

Furthermore, the establishment of the Agri-Food Industrial Park aims to bolster the competitiveness of processing industries and add value to Cambodia’s primary crops, including cashews, cassava, rice, mangoes, bananas, and vegetables, catering to both domestic and export markets.

In the process of setting up this transformative industrial park, the Agri-Food Industrial Park Secretariat and committee members recently embarked on a study visit to Australia under the guidance of Australia’s premier economic development program, CAPRED.

During the visit, the team had the opportunity to explore various aspects, including government support, public relations, industry insights, and research initiatives. This knowledge exchange facilitated a deeper understanding of ecosystem building and addressed the challenges involved in establishing successful agro-industrial parks.

This collaborative endeavor between Australia and Cambodia represents a significant milestone in advancing the country’s agricultural and food processing sector. The establishment of the Agri-Food Industrial Park not only fosters economic growth but also contributes to job creation, empowering women, and propelling Cambodia towards a more competitive and sustainable future.
