Bassac Riverbank Reinforcement in Kandal Surpasses 55% Completion

Strategic 500-meter infrastructure project in Sampov Poun City advances as officials prioritize engineering standards and long-term erosion protection

The critical infrastructure development aimed at securing the Bassac Riverbank in Kandal province has reached a significant milestone, with construction now confirmed at 55% complete. This progress update follows an on-site technical inspection on March 14, 2026, led by His Excellency Chhun Puthearith, Director General of Technical Affairs at the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology.

Located within the strategic Prek Chrey Sangkat of Sampov Poun City, the project encompasses a total length of 500 meters. This undertaking is vital for the long-term stabilization of the riverbank, which plays a central role in protecting local residents and safeguarding the surrounding ecosystem from the natural pressures of erosion.

During the assessment, His Excellency Chhun Puthearith emphasized that while maintaining progress is important, the highest priority remains adherence to rigorous engineering and technical standards. He instructed the project’s engineers and technical teams to ensure that all structural elements are built for maximum durability and strength, ensuring the facility remains effective for decades to come.

Beyond the technical structural requirements, the Director General highlighted the need for the project to align with the government’s broader master plan for water resources. This includes an emphasis on organizational order and aesthetic integration within the local environment, ensuring that the finished project provides a safe, stable, and visually harmonized environment for the public. The ongoing commitment to this project underscores the Ministry’s proactive approach to infrastructure resilience and public safety along Cambodia’s major waterways. Notice that the project’s budget and funding source have not been publicly released.
