Battambang Airport to be Developed to 4C Capacity; Currently at Impact Resettlement Stage

Battambang Airport will be rehabilitated and developed into 4C capacity that can accommodate both domestic and international flights, while the feasibility study and impact resettlement works are still ongoing.

The follow-up discussion on progress was held on 25 March between Secretary of State of the Secretariat of Civil Aviation HE Soy Sokhan and Battambang Governor HE Sok Loo.

Battambang Airport has been out of operation since the 1990s, but PM Samdech Hun Sen ordered the relevant ministries and provincial administrations to study the possibility of rehabilitating Battambang Airport into a domestic airport.

Speaking at the meeting, HE Soy Sokhan said that the airport will be upgraded from a 3C airport to a 4C airport, which will be able to handle Airbus or Boeing to/from both domestic and overseas.

After the feasibility study, the most important step of work is to finish the impact resettlement as many people have been living in the airport area before we can start the runway expansion and terminal construction work, he added.
