Bentley Highlights Rigorous Collaboration Behind OpenBridge Designer Development

Bentley Systems has revealed the collaborative engineering process behind the development of OpenBridge Designer, demonstrating how multidisciplinary expertise ensures the software delivers reliable bridge design and structural analysis capabilities.

During a product development session in Iași, Romania, bridge engineers, product managers, software architects, and developers worked together to validate engineering concepts before writing code. Rather than focusing on interface design, the team debated structural behavior, design workflows, regulatory compliance, and data integration to ensure new features accurately reflect real-world bridge engineering practices.

The discussions emphasized that engineering software development is more than programming—it requires translating decades of engineering knowledge and industry standards into algorithms that engineers can trust for critical infrastructure projects. Prototype features were rapidly developed and continuously reviewed by domain experts, allowing ideas to be tested and refined against real engineering requirements.

Bentley also highlighted the value of in-person collaboration, noting that face-to-face discussions enabled faster and more informed decision-making than remote communication alone. The company stressed that bridge projects require seamless interoperability across multiple disciplines, including road design, geotechnical engineering, structural analysis, and digital twin workflows.

According to Bentley, the trusted capabilities in OpenBridge Designer are the result of rigorous validation, close collaboration, and continuous refinement—ensuring engineers receive software that supports safe, accurate, and efficient infrastructure delivery.
