Bentley Systems Expands Carbon Analysis Tools for Infrastructure Projects

Bentley Systems is highlighting its carbon analysis software as a tool to help infrastructure organizations reduce emissions, improve project efficiency, and comply with increasingly strict environmental regulations.

The software, available through Bentley Infrastructure Cloud, is designed to help engineers and project teams assess the carbon impact of infrastructure projects from the earliest stages of planning and design.

Built on Bentley’s iTwin platform, the application combines data from more than 30 engineering and design file formats into a single digital environment. It automates material quantity calculations and works with industry-standard life cycle assessment tools, allowing users to measure embodied carbon, identify carbon-intensive materials, and compare lower-carbon alternatives before designs are finalized.

According to the company, this reduces reliance on manual calculations and shortens carbon assessments from weeks to hours, enabling faster design decisions.

Bentley said integrating carbon analysis early in the design process can help infrastructure teams reduce material waste, lower construction costs, and meet sustainability standards such as PAS 2080 and other carbon disclosure requirements.

The software also supports whole-life carbon management, allowing organizations to track environmental performance throughout the construction, operation, and eventual decommissioning of infrastructure assets.

The company said the technology is intended to help engineers balance sustainability, project costs, and regulatory compliance while supporting the development of more resilient infrastructure in response to climate and environmental challenges.
