Bentley Systems Showcases AI and Digital Twins to Strengthen Climate-Resilient Infrastructure

A new global study commissioned by Bentley Systems has found that infrastructure organizations are increasingly turning to digital twins and artificial intelligence (AI) to strengthen climate resilience.

The research also shows that while more than 80% of organizations have resilience strategies in place, many still face challenges due to fragmented data and limited budgets.

According to the report, disconnected digital systems prevent infrastructure owners from gaining a complete view of asset performance and climate risks. Bentley says open digital twins can address this challenge by integrating data into a single platform, allowing organizations to move from reactive maintenance to proactive resilience planning.

The study also found that investment in digital technologies is accelerating. More than 70% of surveyed organizations expect to increase spending on digital twin platforms through 2027, while AI-powered tools for inspections, defect detection, and asset health forecasting are seeing rapid adoption.

The report highlights several Bentley-powered projects demonstrating these benefits. In New Orleans, engineering firm Forte & Tablada developed a cloud-based digital twin of the city’s 17th Street Canal pump station, improving storm preparedness while reducing engineering work by an estimated 4,000 hours.

Other case studies include bridge inspections in Minnesota and flood-risk management for PowerChina Henan, where digital twins and AI improved inspection efficiency, reduced costs, and supported more resilient infrastructure operations.

Bentley says integrating digital twins with AI enables infrastructure organizations to better anticipate climate risks, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen long-term resilience as extreme weather events become more frequent.

How Bentley Systems Software Transforms Utility Vegetation Management

As power grids face increasing demands and higher operating temperatures, utilities are rethinking how they handle vegetation management to prevent outages and wildfires. Experts emphasize that traditional, static inspections are no longer enough because high temperatures, wind, and ice cause power lines to sag and shift significantly under real-world conditions. To address this challenge, utilities […]
