Bentley’s Digital Tools Power the World’s Largest AI Data Center Construction

A 4-million-square-foot mega data center is now under construction in Texas to support the boom of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The Bentley Horizons podcast discussed the roles of digital engineering in such a massive infrastructure.

This project is one of the world’s largest data centers—roughly the size of 70 football fields—and set to include eight buildings. It is part of the larger US$500 billion Stargate program and will house up to 50,000 Nvidia AI chips in each of its eight buildings.

This unprecedented scale is driven by the soaring demand for AI infrastructure, with some analysts predicting that data center workloads will triple in the next five years. Handling a massive construction project requires revolutionary planning, according to Preston Williams of DPR Construction. The contractor is utilizing 4D planning—a process that links 3D models to construction schedules—to manage the complexity.

Williams specifically highlighted the value of Bentley’s Synchro platform, noting that the visual models help train the influx of new workers. “The model paints a picture of the scope of work they’re going to install, even if they’ve not built it before,” he stated.

4D modeling, also known as 4D building information modeling (BIM), such as SYNCHRO 4D is helping construction companies win projects by visually presenting their plan. This process links a 3D model of a project to its construction schedule, creating a powerful simulation. (Read more)

A 4D model acts as a single source of data center for your project, keeping all of your information—including design data, costs, schedules, and real-time progress—in one place. This makes it easier for everyone on the team to stay informed, track progress, and make adjustments as needed.

The project involves multi-gigawatt (GW) facilities, including a massive, multi-billion-dollar AI campus powered by a combination of natural gas, solar, wind, and proposed nuclear energy. Besides, major tech companies like Google, Meta, Amazon Data Services (AWS), and developers like CyrusOne, Compass Datacenters, and Vantage Data Centers are all deeply invested in this project.

As head of Infrastructure Cloud Partner Experience, Ayeni is taking the lead in Bentley’s partner experience. “No one company can solve the problem of infrastructure projects,” Ayeni tells the podcast. “My role is all about finding best-in-breed partners all through the infrastructure lifecycle.”
