Cambodia, China Vow to Boost Solar Energy Sector

Cambodia and China are committed to jointly promoting solar energy and the usage of information technology in the energy sector, to increase renewable energy in Cambodia’s energy mix.

The two countries provided the statement during an MoU signing ceremony between the Ministry of Mines and Chinese company Huawei Technology (Cambodia) on 17 November 2022.

During this MoU signing ceremony, the Cambodian government and the Chinese company agreed to cooperate on seven key tasks including:

– Study the technical standards, safety, and coordination of solar energy with the network system to ensure the stability of the power grid.

– Study the battery system technology to reduce the negative impact on the power grid.

– Study single solar systems that are not connected to the grid, especially for villages and islands that do not yet have access to electricity.

– Study the national management system on the entire solar power plant to monitor and manage all solar power stations.

-Study technology to improve energy efficiency.

-Introduce information technology in the energy sector.

-Review case studies in the Asia-Pacific region to ensure best practices.

“Energy, climate, and environmental issues are challenges that come as a package for humanity in this new era. This issue reflects the need for a rapid energy revolution from high-carbon energy to renewable energy but in a reliable and cost-effective approach,” said Mines Minister HE Suy Sem.
