Cambodia Generates 2,731 mW Energy Domestically, to Increase to 10,000mW by 2030

Currently, Cambodia can domestically produce total energy up to a maximum of 2,731 mW, while the government is boosting more energy investment to increase power capacity to 10,000 mW by 2030.

According to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, power sources in Cambodia are from heavy fueled power plants at236 mW, biomass-fueled power plants at 111 mW, solar PV stations at 360 mW, coal-fired power plants at 675 mW, and hydropower plants at 1,329 mW.

HE Victor Jona, Director-General of Energy at the Ministry of Mines and Energy, said that power generated from mixed sources are being boosted for sufficient and sustainable power supply.

Cambodia expects to get a new renewable power source – wind energy, as two companies are in the stage of studying and negotiating power tariffs with the government, he said.

The ministry has set a target of supplying 10,000 mW in the next 10 years in response to the ongoing development activities in the country.
