Cambodia Produces 6 Tons of Gold from Mondulkiri So Far

Cambodia’s first commercial gold miner, Renaissance Minerals (Cambodia) Ltd, has so far refined a total of 6,000 kg of gold ore in the Okvau area of Mondulkiri province’s Keo Seima district, according to HE Sorn Sarun, Deputy Governor of Mondulkiri Province.

In a press conference on “Success in the past 5 years” of Mondulkiri Provincial Administration on 6 April 2023, HE Sorn Sarun stated that the Australian-owned company has been producing gold since 21 June 2021, with a projected 3 tons of gold production annually and an expected US$185 million per annum in pre-tax cash flow.

He also noted that since the production started, Renaissance Minerals has so far refined 6 tons of gold ore in the licensed area in Okvau.

Aside from Renaissance Minerals, there are seven other gold mining companies operating in four provinces of Cambodia, including Mondulkiri, Ratanakiri, Battambang, and Preah Vihear. The deputy governor added that a total of 14 companies have been granted permission, with 18 licenses, to invest in the mining sector, including 11 licensed handicraft companies. (Read mroe)

As Cambodia continues to boost its mining sector, the country’s gold production is expected to rise in the coming years, providing a significant boost to the economy.
