Cambodia to Seek Loan From China for Electrical Grid

In order to expand the supply of electricity to all provinces across the country, the government plans to seek an additional loan from the Chinese government for the construction of a national electrical grid, according to Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia.

“We need to find more capital to continue supplying electricity to provinces [25 provinces] and the capital we can find is from China”, said SamdechTecho Hun Sen.

“So, please note H.E new ambassador [Chinese ambassador to Cambodia], my upcoming visit, and negotiations will deeply focus on requesting for a loan for the connection of an electrical grid for Cambodia”, he added.

According to data from the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Cambodia has a national network with 2,141km of high voltage transmission lines and 33 sub-electricity stations. This network is able to directly connect all of the electricity that Cambodia generates with 20 sub-electricity stations which can then be transmitted through sub-lines to the remaining 5 provinces temporarily.
