Cambodia Seeks Japan’s Support to Revitalize ANA Flights and Boost Tourism

In a bid to rejuvenate the tourism sector, the Minister of Tourism in Cambodia has reached out to the former Japanese Ambassador, urging assistance in reconnecting ANA flights and bolstering tourism to the country.

The request was made during a meeting between His Excellency Minister Thong Khon and His Excellency Yuji Kumamaru on June 13, 2023, where discussions centered around the significant role ANA flights could play in attracting more Japanese visitors to Cambodia.

Recognizing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the aviation industry, Minister Thong Khon appealed to HE Yuji Kumamaru to facilitate the resumption of ANA flights, which had been temporarily halted due to travel restrictions. The minister emphasized the importance of Japanese tourists to Cambodia’s tourism sector and sought support in promoting the country as an enticing destination.

HE Yuji Kumamaru responded positively to the Minister’s request, pledging to actively promote Cambodian tourist attractions and encourage Japanese travelers to visit. Furthermore, he expressed his willingness to facilitate discussions to explore the launch of additional flights connecting Japan and Cambodia.

Excitingly, HE Yuji Kumamaru revealed that a prominent Japanese tour company, Japan Dream Tours, has expressed interest in establishing offices in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. This move aims to facilitate Japanese tourists’ visits to Cambodia while simultaneously encouraging Cambodian travelers to explore the captivating landscapes of Japan. With offices in 25 countries worldwide, Japan Dream Tours has the potential to bring an estimated 50,000 tourists annually.

The collaboration between Cambodia and Japan in revitalizing ANA flights and attracting more Japanese tourists holds promising prospects for Cambodia’s tourism industry. As the dialogue continues and efforts intensify, both countries anticipate a resurgence in tourism, fostering cultural exchange and economic growth.
