Cambodian Dimension Stone Sector Generates Nearly $40 Million for National Economy

The Cambodian dimension stone and processed marble industry has emerged as a key pillar supporting the national economy, contributing nearly $40 million in royalty revenues between 2022 and early 2026. This significant financial milestone, which excludes additional internal taxes, duties, and levies, underscores the growing economic importance of the country’s domestic mineral and stone assets. The official revenue data was highlighted by HE Keo Rottanak, the Minister of Mines and Energy, during the first board meeting of the Cambodia Dimension Stone Association held on June 24, 2026.

Speaking to industry leaders and association members, Minister Keo Rottanak noted that various types of construction minerals and quarry resources have played an increasingly vital role in bolstering national financial reserves. To sustain this growth and prevent market fragmentation, the ministry announced a strategic decision to temporarily pause the issuance of new dimension stone mining licenses for stone varieties that are already abundant and underutilized. This policy is designed to give existing licensed operators the space to maximize their resource potential, stabilize domestic supply, and secure their capital investments before new competition enters the marketplace.

The government emphasized that introducing more operators under challenging global market conditions would create an oversupply, reducing profitability across the board. Instead, the state plans to collaborate closely with the Cambodia Dimension Stone Association over the next three to five years to build a stronger framework for business management, improve domestic product utilization, and diversify product lines. Looking forward, the ministry has prioritized expanding access to lucrative international export markets while strictly adhering to high environmental protection standards, workplace safety regulations, and technical skills development for the local Cambodian workforce.
