China Plans to Build 6,000km Transcontinental Road to Algeria (North Africa)

In a landmark partnership set to reshape Algeria’s socio-economic landscape, China and Algeria have embarked on an ambitious journey to construct an extensive 6,000 kilometres of railway lines. Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune lauded this monumental effort as a cornerstone of his nation’s progress. The project heralded on www.africanews.com on 29 August 2023, is a testament to the countries’ collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), China’s global infrastructure and trade development initiative.

“The aim is to facilitate the exploitation of mines, promote trade, and create economic vitality in Algeria,” declared President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

This visionary railway project, bolstered by Chinese technical expertise, will interconnect Algeria’s cities and regions. It promises not only enhanced domestic mobility but also a catalyst for economic development across numerous African countries.

President Tebboune’s announcement follows his recent state visit to China, during which the two nations inked over a dozen cooperation agreements spanning various sectors, including aerospace, agriculture, energy, railway transportation, science, and technology.

The China-Algeria partnership emerges as a beacon of progress and regional connectivity, solidifying Algeria’s position as a hub for trade, economic growth, and international cooperation.
