China Punishes 31 Responsible for Deaths of 73

The Chinese government has ordered ‘coercive measures’ on 31 people it has held responsible for an accident on a construction site in November 2016 that killed 73 people.

The deaths were caused by the collapse of a cooling tower at a power plant which was under construction in Southern China. Two more workers were injured and the cost of the incident was estimated at USD15.6 million dollars according to state news agency Xinhua.

A government report says investigators concluded that the accident was caused by a range of issues, including poor supervision “and the building company’s failure to fulfill its work safety responsibilities,” Xinhua said.
