‘Clean Energy Week’ to Bring Inclusive Development of Green energy for Cambodia

Clean Energy Week, Cambodia’s biggest convention on clean energy, has already begun, hoping to bring Cambodia a more advanced and inclusive development plan in green energy.

Held between 21-28 October online, the virtual event organised by EngeryLab Cambodia shares how clean energy can bring much needed green investment and jobs, while supporting energy security, improving energy independence and set Cambodia on a path to lower electricity costs.

Cambodia has an incredible opportunity to plan a future that produces its own clean electricity ensuring secure, reliable, affordableand sustainable electricity for all, said the pre-event report.

The report added Cambodia could save US$16.4 billion buying power from coal plants in Lao PDR, and instead invest that money in projects to create jobs across Cambodia on solar and wind farms. Investing 11.6GW of solar and wind would result in US$6.8 billion dollars of investment in Cambodia, creating over 51,000 jobs.

Industry in Cambodia, such as H&M, Adidas, Gap, Puma, Nike and Specialized Bicycles are also calling for this – because they have renewable energy and climate targets to meet as countries and businesses across the world set net zero targets that impact their supply chains.
