Construction of 60mW Solar Power Station in Kampong Chhnang to Begin Next Year

Construction of a 60-mW solar power plant in Kampong Chhnang province will begin early next year, according to the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

The project received a concession loan from the Asian Development Bank under the Cambodia National Solar Park project.

It is the first phase of the Cambodia National Solar Park project, with the second phase of a 40-mW project in the bidding stage. The two projects are located in Teuk Phos district, Kampong Chhnag province. (Read more)

HE Victor Jona, Director General of Energy of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, said that construction is expected to begin early next year due to procedures required by the creditor.

“The procedures set up by the ADB are much longer than ours. If our procedures, for example, when we completed the tariff negotiation, then they will start construction immediately. But the ADB has to follow its procedures,” said Mr Jona.

The 60-mW project is being invested in by Thai company Prime Road with the bid of US$0.3877 per kilowatt-hour to EDC.
