Construction of 700MW Coal Power Plant in SHV 40% Complete

The construction of the 700 MW coal-fired power plant in Sihanoukville is now 40% complete and is expected to go online by 2023, according to a senior official at the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

Director-General of Energy HE Victor Jona said that the construction process has been on schedule despite disruptions that have occurred due to the pandemic.

“As of today, the company is preparing the ground and installing main facilities. The construction as a whole is 40% complete,” he said.

Being built on 55 hectares in Stung Hav district, this project is worth over US$1.2 billion, which is a co-investment between local Cambodia International Investment and Development Group and China Huadian Hong Kong Co Ltd.

The project gained approval from the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) in March this year, but the construction began in 2019 prior to receiving the aproval certificate. (Read more and more)
