Prime Minister Breaks Ground for US$1m Museum at Wat Reachbo, Siem Reap Province

Cambodia’s Prime Minister Samdech Hun Manet presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the Samdech Pin Sem Museum at Wat Reachbo, a project valued at over US$1 million, located in Siem Reap’s Sala Kamroeuk district.

Speaking during the event, the PM emphasised that the construction of the museum will contribute to the socio-economic development of Siem Reap by preserving cultural heritage and promoting tourism. He stated that the museum would safeguard artefacts entrusted to monks by Buddhists, helping future generations understand their culture.

The museum project, expected to cost more than US$1,039,660 (excluding the general design and interior decoration), will take 24 months to complete. Designed in Khmer architectural style by professionals from the APSARA Authority, the structure will be 34 metres long, 26.6 metres wide, and two floors high (ground floor and first floor).

The Samdech Preah Prohm Ratanamony Pin Sem Museum will house a collection of 2,575 artefacts made from materials such as burnt metal, beads, wood, bones, ivory, and stone, dating from prehistoric times to the post-Angkorian period. The PM  emphasised that the museum would not only preserve cultural heritage but also serve as an additional tourist attraction, contributing to the country’s economic development.
