Construction of National Road 5 Southern Section 80% Complete

The southern section of National Road No. 5 (Prek Kdam-Thla Mam) is 80% complete and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2023.

HE Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport inspected the progress of the construction of the National Road No. 5’s Prek Kdam-Thla Mam Improvement Project on June 23 with the participation of the ministry’s officials, local authorities, construction company representatives, technical teams.

The 135-kilometre southern road section of National Road No. 5 is divided into three packages, starting from Prek Kdam (Kandal province) to Thla Mam (Pursat province) with US$246.35 million in construction cost.

The southern road section of the National Road No. 5 improvement project started construction on May 21, 2018, with a construction period of 48 months. (Read more)

This project is in the National Road No. 5 Improvement Project with a total length of 366km which is a project under the US$500 million concessional loan from the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency in Cambodia with construction work divided into three major sections: north, south and central road sections.

During the inspection, HE Sun Chanthol highlighted the government’s efforts to seek both loans and national budgets and grants to build road systems to make logistics and transportation systems lower which can compete with neighbouring countries and allow the government to attract investors to invest in Cambodia to create jobs for people.

It should also be noted that this section of National Road No. 5 is divided into three sections, with the section from Battambang-Serey Sophorn completed and inaugurated in September 2021. (Read more)
