Construction of US$4.4bn Motorway in Mekong Delta Set to Begin in November

Construction of a new 156km motorway across five provinces of the Mekong Delta, Vietnam’s largest rice-growing region, is set to begin in November.

According to a GCR report last week, the road will connect Can Tho to Ca Mau city, some 170km southwest of Ho Chi Minh City.

Built at a cost of approximately US$4.4 billion, the project consists of two stages – a two-lane highway in the first phase, and expansion to four lanes in the second phase.

The project is due to be completed in 2025.

The Vietnamese government aims to make the delta a sustainable, dynamic and highly efficient agricultural economic centre of the country, the region and the world.
