Significant Milestone Achieved as NR31 Restoration Hits 40% Completion

The ongoing project to restore and enhance the quality of National Road 31 (NR31) has achieved a notable milestone, reaching the 40% completion mark as of February 2024. According to the project progress updated from a recent site inspection conducted by the technical team comprising representatives from China Bridge and Road Corporation (CRBC), Guangzhou Wanan Technical Advisory Company, and professionals from relevant units.

As of February 6, 2024, the project has demonstrated substantial progress across various aspects, with key highlights including:

  • Sub-grade road construction: 84.26%
  • Sub-base construction: 69.90%
  • Base-Course: 46.46%
  • Pipe Culvert construction: 87.84%
  • Box Culvert construction: 90.91%

It’s worth noting that alongside the NR31 project, the government has undertaken the construction of two inter-town roads. The first, located at Angkor Chey market, has reached 17% completion (focused on embankment work), while the second, situated at Banteay Meas market, has achieved 45% completion (currently working on Subbase 2nd floor).

NR31 spans a total length of 53,539 km, stretching from Bek Kus Road (junction of National Road 3) to Kampong Trach district town (junction of National Road 33). The rehabilitation project, costing over US$60 million, is facilitated through a concessional loan from the Government of the People’s Republic of China, supplemented by contributions from the Cambodian government to cover associated impacts and taxes.
